UF Diabetes Institute to donate glucometers for HealthStreet Community Health Workers

With one out of every 11 people in the US living with diabetes, more than a quarter of people are not aware that they have this condition.

Thanks to the generosity of the UF Diabetes Institute, HealthStreet Community Health Workers (CHWs) now have another resource, six new glucometers, to continue to effectively serve the Gainesville community’s health and wellness needs.

Carly Barnes, the assistant director at the UF Diabetes Institute, said that the glucometers will allow CHWs to check blood sugar levels in addition to the many screening services that HealthStreet CHWs already provide.

HealthStreet and the UF Diabetes Institute both share similar yet important institutional missions – to improve the health of our community.
